About the TACFS Communications Work Group:
Digital meetings with communication directors/managers and other Texas child welfare leaders interested in unpacking growth hacking strategies and messaging tactics, with the goal of gaining traction to accelerate non profit programs and marketing endeavors.
About this Session:
This communications work group session, we will be joined by communication experts, Melissa Vela-Williamson from MVW Communications and Claudia Loya from Sweet Talk Social to review best practices, tips and strategies to keep your social media handles active, relevant and responsive, as we move into 2021. Melissa and Claudia have worked with many nonprofit clients in the child-serving field and look forward to sharing their knowledge and expertise!
About the Presenters
Melissa Vela-Williamson, APR, MVW Communications
Melissais an award-winning communicator with over 16 years of general market and multicultural integrated marketing communications experience in agency, corporate and nonprofit settings. Today, she serves clients as the Chief Communication Architect of her own virtual agency, MVW Communications. Melissa’s a 360° communicator, but has a special expertise and accreditation in public relations. Through MVW, she works directly as a consultant, assembles account expert teams to develop and implement campaigns, or collaborates with larger agencies needing her PR or specialized experience. She has directed public relations, marketing, advertising and social strategy for youth-focused organizations such as the Children’s Shelter, Divinity Family Services, Alamo Colleges District, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and many more. In addition to agency work, she is also a professional workshop facilitator, leading workshops for Spurs Sports & Entertainment, the Children’s Shelter – Family Tapestry division, CPS Energy, the San Antonio Area Foundation, and the Alamo Colleges Workforce Network. She also consults as a communication coach, has taught as adjunct faculty, writes a national column for the Public Relations Society of America, and is a frequent guest speaker at colleges across the country. Claudia is considered one of the top social media strategists in the San Antonio Area.
She is a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio (’10) and has played critical roles in digital marketing for national nonprofits, regional music festivals, and multiple small businesses. Claudia unknowingly launched her career long before graduating by founding Rowdy Radio, an online radio station at the University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA). She went on to work as an events specialist with the San Antonio Rodeo and Transportation Logistics manager for Neon Desert Music Festival. Realizing her strengths in digital marketing, she went on to create one of the first digital organizations in San Antonio, AwesomeSA in 2012. Solely operating through social media, it gained 1,200 followers on Facebook in less than a year and continues to award $1,000 grants every month. She then made her first attempt at launching a social media agency in 2014 under the name of The BB Group. Since then, she stayed true to her digital roots and played crucial roles for national nonprofits, regional law firms, and top area festivals such as Dia de Los Muertos NOW @ HEMISFAIR and The ORIGINAL San Antonio Coffee Festival.
Today Claudia continues to flex her savvy through Sweet Talk Social working with clients in various industries.
